WELCOME!

Welcome to the homepage of the Cottontail Cobias!

For 2008, we were in Division 15 of the Northern Virginia Swimming League (NVSL). For those of you returning from last year, welcome back! If you are considering joining, we hope you find all of the information you need here. If not, please don't hesitate to contact the swim team parent coordinator, Susan Ippolito at 703-455-8446 (email: COBIAS@cox.net). It's not too late to join! Practices are just getting started, so come on and join the fun!

As you can see in some of the pictures from the 2005 and 2006 seasons - swim team has a lot to offer you and your children - from pre-K thru age 18! Friendly competition, lasting friendships, an opportunity to enjoy both individual and team accomplishments, and above all else...

HAVE A LOT OF FUN!

Coaching for the 2008 season will once again be headed by Lori Pawlik (Welcome Back Lori!). She did such an awesome job last year, along with our other great coaches, so we are thrilled to have her back.

SWIM SEASON

The season is packed with fun! It'll be over before you know it!

The summer swim season is less than nine weeks long from the first practice through Divisionals.  While the coaches realize that there are numerous end of school year activities and ongoing spring sports, it is important that the swimmer attend as many practice sessions as possible as their schedule will allow!

COMMUNICATIONS

The Cobias use a number of communication vehicles:
  • Primary - Communications will be done at practice, either face-to-face or via the swimmer file (each swim team member has a file folder kept at the pool. We ask you to check it frequently).
  • Secondary - A weekly newsletter (sent via email. A copy of the newsletter is also posted at the pool office).
  • Tertiary - Through the cottontail website (www.cottontailpool.com).

Parents and swimmers are expected to know about meets and events. Information about practices, swim meets, pep rallies, swim team membership forms, volunteer forms, and directions to away meets can be found via web links at the top and bottom of this page and will also be included in the weekly newsletter.

Help us get the word out! Go to http://www.cottontailpool.com

SWIM MEETS

Get ready...to have a great time!

Dual meets and Developmental meets are run as in years past. We encourage all swimmers to be present at as many practices and, especially, meets as possible. However, we fully understand that most swimmers will miss some time during the season. We really do want your swimmer on the team even if they will miss half of the season! If your child will be absent for a meet (especially a Saturday meet) or for an extended period of time, we do ask that you please fill out an absentee form to provide our coaches time to adjust the meet rosters and plan accordingly. Absentee forms should be turned in ASAP and no later than the Monday prior to the Saturday absence.

Saturday meets start at 9:00am and usually are over before 12:00 noon.

Monday Developmental Meets start at 6:30 pm and are usually over before 9:00pm.

SWIM SUIT AND CAPS...

Cobia team swim suits are for sale at SuitUp LLC, at University Mall in Fairfax (map). The team cap is required for swimmers who choose to wear a cap at a meet, and is available through the swim team.

Show your support for the team and purchase Cobia spirit wear! Order forms are included in the information packet. Orders must be submitted by May 30, 2008.

Have a great time supporting your team!

FACE PAINT OPTIONAL!

VOLUNTEERS AND OFFICIATING

Swim team needs you to make each season a successful one!

Please note that every effort was made to spread the volunteering jobs more appropriately this year.   Please review, complete and turn in the attached form for return of your volunteer “ransom” check.

We are fortunate to have skilled leaders to coordinate the volunteer positions.  The coordinators will answer any questions about their positions and offer necessary training.

The Cobias are always looking to stock their pond with certified Stroke & Turn officials.  If you can help out, please attend on of the following clinics:

  • Saturday, June 7th, 8:00am at Virginia Hills Pool
  • Sunday, June 15th at 9:30am at Sleepy Hollow Rec Association
  • Wednesday, June 18th at 7:00pm at Sleepy Hollow Rec Association
  • Wednesday, June 18th at 7:00pm at Sully Station
  • All clinics start on-time, rain-or-shine

Referee, Starter, Head Timer, Table Worker and Clerk of Course Clinics will be held on Saturday, May 31 at NVSL University at Falls Church High School. See Susan for times.
